The race to be nominated as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Mpohor District Assembly in the Western Region, following the passing away and burial of the sitting Chief Executive for the District, Mr. Anthony Bassaw, has begun.
With the position now vacant, five aspirants have put in bids to be considered.
However, after the vetting of the would be DCE’s, two out of the five were dropped by the Vetting Committee, chaired by Mr. Isaiah Quansah, Essikado-Ketan Constituency Chairman of the ruling party.
The two, who were dropped, according to information picked up by The Chronicle, are Mr. Kwaku Kyeremah, parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Mpohor Constituency, and Francis Prah Bunoo.
Information gathered by this reporter indicated that Kweku Kyeremah, apart from failing to make the mark before the committee, was reported because of his bad relationship with his Constituency Chairman, Stephen Cudjoe.
Information has it that Kweku Kyeremah and the Constituency Chairman do not see eye to eye, resulting in the former being queried at a party meeting.
Other members of the Vetting Committee included the Regional Chairman, Mr. Michal Aidoo, and the Regional Deputy Minister, Alfred Ekow Gyan, amongst other party executives.
Currently, the three persons who made the mark before the committee have been shortlisted for another round of vetting to be conducted in Accra where they would come before the Ahaji Iddrisu Mahama-led committee.
The three are Mr. Wilfred Essah, Mr. Isaac Boafo, sitting Presiding Member of the Assembly, and Albert Awortwe.
Any of the three is likely to be nominated the next DCE for the Mpohor Assembly.
Analysis
Considering the track record of the three aspirants, this paper can report that Wilfred Essah is the most promising for the position, following his relationship with the chiefs, opinion leaders and his active involvement in party activities in the region.
For Isaac Boafo, the PM of the Assembly, he had to endure difficult and multiple rounds of voting to pass the two-thirds majority vote to be eventually elected Presiding Member of the Assembly.
What that means is that his elections as DCE, in the unlikely event that he is settle upon, and would be a tough journey.
With Albert Awortwe, the defeated parliamentary candidate, he has backing of his constituency chairman.
