JBs Murder: More Questions Beg For Answers

Ghanaians woke up to the unfortunate news of the dastardly killing of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North constituency in the Eastern region, Hon. Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, Tuesday morning.

Whiles the police are working fervently around the clock to apprehend the perpetrator(s) behind the killing, some people, including security analysts, have already ruled out robbery as the motive for the murder and that everything points to a premeditated attack.

“This is not accidental killing, this is not some reckless killing or killing resulting from some reckless conduct, this is purposive, this fine gentleman was deliberately targeted by the killer or killers,” Prof. Attafuah stated in an interview yesterday with a radio station in Accra.

However, Prof. Attafuah, who is a criminologist by profession, said that he did not think there was enough evidence to conclude that the late MP’s murder was a contract killing.

But the MP for Abuakwa South, Hon. Atta Akyea, thinks otherwise.

According to him, this was a case of contract killing.

But whether it was a robbery attack gone wrong or ‘contract killing’ as some had alluded to, there are still lingering questions which beg for more answers.

Among the pointers which should be of interest to the police include which place(s) the late J.B Danquah visited before he returned home as well as why he came home around midnight (as claimed).

The victim’s own history must also interest investigators, especially given the fact that he had been attacked previously by unknown assailants.

The late MP was also known to be a business mogul who had chains of businesses with several business interests in the country and elsewhere, therefore looking into his business dealings will not be out of place.

Many people who knew JB described him as a fine gentleman and a fine politician who did not dabble in the shenanigans associated with Ghanaian politics.

Even his political opponents from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) have spoken well about JB and attested that he was a politician par excellence.

However, one can never know all of one’s enemies.

In politics enemies can sometimes come from within, it is therefore important the police CID keep that option too opened.

Also linked to this issue is whether the deceased MP felt his life was under threat in any way, for which reason he needed personal security including procuring a gun.

From the accounts given by some family members the MP had his gun in his room when the attacker(s) pounced on him in his sleep.

Perhaps a different story would have been told had he spotted the assailant(s) earlier before the attack.

It is believed that whoever killed Hon. J.B Danquah Adu gained access to his bedroom using a ladder to climb onto the balcony leading to the bedroom.

If that was the case, then it should also interest the police as to where the attacker(s) secured the ladder to elevate himself/themselves onto the top floor of the MP’s residence.

What was the ladder doing on the compound? Who put the ladder there and for what reason and at what point was the ladder found leaned against the rod?

All these questions should play out in the investigations and answers found to them.

This also leads to the action or inaction of the security man on duty at the time of the attack.

From the accounts so far it appears there were three security guards in the house.

How many security guards were present on duty on the fateful night?

It is important this matter gets clarified as well as the steps the security took to secure the residence on the night.

Also lingering on the peoples’ minds is how come the attacker(s) gained access to the house so easily and whether someone in the house aided the attacker(s) to enter the residence?

As at press time yesterday, the police had bailed three of the five suspects arrested on Tuesday

to aid the police in their investigations.

Meanwhile the national headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has taken over the investigations into the case from the Accra Regional Police Command.
