Govt Should Put Up A Parliamentary Village - Security Expert

A security expert, Dr. Kingsley Agyei is calling on the government to as a matter urgency put up a Parliamentary Village to house all the 275 Members of Parliament to avoid future similar incidents which resulted in the unfortunate death of the Abuakwa North MP, Hon. Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu.

According to him, the Parliamentary Village can be completed within 5 years if government makes it part of its agenda, to provide comprehensive security for all the Parliamentarians.

Suggesting a lasting security plan for Parliamentarians, Dr. Kingsley Agyei on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show said the Village will accommodate every Member of the House of Parliament for the 4 year period enshrined in the constitution so long as they remain the representatives of their constituents in the august House.

He based his suggestion on the fact that as Parliamentarians, the nature of their work will push them to step on people’s toes and moreover as the Executive and the Judiciary branch of government have state protection; it is prudent for Parliamentarians to enjoy same.

I think the police personnel is not adequate and so the best solution is to build Parliamentary Village from now and by 5 years, we would have completed it and security will be comprehensive as they will be staying at one area . . . when after 4 years, you lose your seat, the next successor will occupy the apartment; the place won’t be given to them as Ex-gratia and this will go a long way to help our Parliamentarians,” he suggested.

He however directed the government to take serious the unemployed youth in the country as they are easily induced to commit crime for money.
