AshGold beat 10-man MO Bejaia in CAF Champions League

Ashanti Gold managed a 1-0 victory over Algerian Club MO Bejaia in the first leg of the CAF Champions League match played at Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Ghana Premier League Champions gave themselves a narrow advantage ahead of the reverse encounter in Algeria in a fortnight time.

After failing to find the back of the net in the first half despite the numerous opportunities that came their way, the Ghanaian giants got the breakthrough after defender Joshua Tijani found his way through to nick in a ball after a challenge from the Bejaia goalkeeper.

The miners were given a real scare when the visitors had a goal disallowed in the first half.

The Obuasi-based Club could not find the back of the net having dominated the entire first 45 minutes.

MO Bejaia were reduced to 10-men after midfielder Lakatari was sent off for a second bookable offense.

Coach Bashiru Hayford however made quick substitutions by bringing on fleet-footed Emmanuel Baffour who proved to be the game changer by causing lots of threats to the Bejaia defense.

The host finally broke the deadlock in the 61st minute after left-back Joshua Tijani got his ball past the goalkeeper to register the only goal of the match to help the Ghanaians secure a vital win at home.

Ashanti Gold will travel to Algeria to take on their counterparts in the return encounter in two weeks time.
