One hundred and fifty four(154) students out of the 420 presented by the Wesley Girls Senior High School in Cape Coast at the 2015 West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) attained at least 5A’s representing more than a third of the students presented.
The school was also able to produce the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best overall candidates in the whole of West Africa in the same year as well as produce the best candidates in Business and Science courses.
The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Betty Djokoto made these known during the 179 Speech and Prize Giving Day of the School over the weekend at the school premises.
Mrs. Djokoto stated that the challenges of power outage in 2014 and other factors that were beyond their control did not allow the dream of sweeping all the awards to fade away, a situation which compelled the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to provide the school with three sets of generators to improve on teaching and learning.
She announced that the second year of the implementation of the school’s five year strategic plan have emphasized the need to instill in the students the core values which include godliness, integrity, respect, sacrifice, diligence, courage, discipline and excellence.
“If we can help our young people to understand that these are the values that really matter in life, we would be churning out a generation of transformed and responsible citizens who would be prepared to stand for what is right regardless of the circumstances,” she added
Mrs. Djokoto thanked the government for the provision of a new science laboratory which would soon be inaugurated and also thanked the Old Students of the school for their immense contribution.
The former President, Jerry John Rawlings who was the guest speaker , charged the students not to allow themselves to be intimidated but continue to do whatever they can do in life very well to enable them become responsible people in future.
