Afriwave Contract: Stop Criticizing Every Gov't Project...It's Disincentive To Investors

Hon. Akwasi Adusei, Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano North has waded into discussions regarding the Afriwave contract for the Interconnect Clearing House (ICH).

The contract has come under attack from policy think tank IMANI Ghana which is asking for a probe into the issue.

According to the think tank, “the panel manipulated its own scoring scheme to ensure that Afriwave came on top, regardless of the actual results and they did so with brazenness that is almost farcical”.

“With a score of 0 on equity, how did Afriwave score more than 75% of the points available on debt equity ratio? Why was the final report of the committee not vetted by the NCA for accuracy and consistency of the computations and conclusions arrived at?"

But the Communications Minister in an interview with host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Monday dismissed the claims by IMANI Ghana stating that the contract was "a cabinet policy approved by the cabinet of the Republic of Ghana."

Also addressing the issue on 'kokrokoo' on Tuesday, the Ahafo Ano North MP advised critics to desist from condemning every project that the government undertakes in the interest of Ghanaians.

According to him, such criticisms and attacks serve as a major disincentive to companies which want to invest into the economy.

He expressed optimism over the Afriwave deal with the National Communication Authority because in his earnest view the deal will help Ghanaians.
