Aboakyer is a festival celebrated by the Effutu people of Winneba, in the Central Region of Ghana. The climax of this festival, which attracts huge patronage, is the competition for the hunting and catching of live deer by the rival asafo groups, Tuafo and Dentsefo.

The organizers of the Aboakyer cup have announced that registration for interested Second Division teams is now opened. Registration forms can be obtained from the offices of Winneba United, at the Winneba United park in Sankor, Winneba, between 8am and 5pm.

Seven teams in addition to the host team, Winneba United, are expected to play in this tournament. Teams are expected to register a maximum of 25 players. Registration fee is GHC200. The organizers shall refund GHC150 to teams that honors all their matches.

The eight weeks tournament will kick off with an official media launch on March 20, 2016. The final match shall be played on May 8, 2016, to climax the Aboakyer festival.

All matches shall be played on the Winneba United Park at Sankor in Winneba. The winner of the tournament shall take home the Aboakyer Cup trophy, two thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC2,000) cash, 12 training cones and 2 footballs.

Currently Run-Off Restaurant, located at Winneba Junction, is the initial sponsor of the tournament. NYCE MEDIA and its partner, Winneba United, is negotiating additional sponsorship with other companies, and wishes to invite more interested sponsors on board.

It will be recalled that in 2015 Winneba United organized a similar tournament in honor of MR. R.C. Ekem, the Managing Director of Ekem Art Pottery Ltd, Winneba, for his contribution towards the development of Winneba.

The R.C. Ekem cup attracted thousands of supporters to the Winneba United park, including high profile personalities such as Dan Kwaku Yebaoh, Kofi Asare Brako, ex Black Stars players Baffour Gyan, Atta Moses, Showbiz personality Akwasi Boadi (Akrobeto), and a host of others.

It is expected that the Aboakyer cup will draw even bigger crowds to the Winneba United park.
