Mr Baba Jamal, Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, has advised artisans not to look down on their vocations since their contribution to nation building is immeasurable.
He stated, “Some people may only see someone who goes to work in a jacket and tie as the one having a decent job, but I can tell you in all sincerity that what you offer cannot be quantified. You are worth more than you think. In fact, the nation cannot function without you.”
Mr Jamal was speaking at the re-launch of the Artisans Association of Ghana on the theme: “The Role of Education in the Life of the 21st century Artisan” in Tema.
The Artisans Association of Ghana (AAG) is an association of construction-sector craft people with skills in masonry, tiling, plumbing, metal fabrication, carpentry, painting, interior decoration, steel bending, among others.
The Association has about 300 members serving in the Greater Accra, Western and Volta regions and hopes to expand to all the regions of Ghana.
Mr Gideon Bidor, the President of AAG, said the Association was guided by the philosophy that every individual was unique and endowed with talents, which needed to be unearthed for the benefit of society.
He said AAG aimed at identifying economic viable projects that could generate employment for artisans and improve on their knowledge with innovations.
Mr Bidor, therefore, appealed to Real Estate developers, home owners, and infrastructure- related contractors to engage the services of members of the AAG saying, “We are committed to providing you with qualified and professional artisans to work with.”
