Supreme Court yesterday to dismiss petitions by Tiger Eye PI for their impeachment. Joined to the writ are the Tiger Eye PI, the Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina Theodora Wood and the Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appia-Opong.
Justices Mustapha Habib Logoh, Gilbert Ayisi Addo and Paul Uuter Dery, argued that Tiger Eye PI was not a registered legal entity in Ghana, and thus had no authority to petition President John Mahama for their removal from office.
The plaintiffs averred that Tiger Eye PI’s ‘petitions’ to President Mahama for their removal from office as Justices of the Superior Court were inconsistent with, and in contravention of Article 146(3) of the 1992 Constitution, as the defendants did not exist in fact and in law as a “petitioner” to have submitted the said petitions.
The justices held the view that the actions of Tiger EYE PI constituted fraud, contrary to the laws of the land for the President and the Chief Justice to initiate such action against them.
The writ indicated that a search at the Registrar General’s Department and the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) indicated that Tiger Eye PI was non-existent.
They said the search revealed a company by name Tiger Eye PI Media Limited, which was registered under the Companies Act, 1963 (Act 179) with Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Pamella Abbey as its current directors.
The three judges were among 32 higher and lower court judges captured in a video by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, the Chief Executive of Tiger Eye PI negotiating various amounts to free litigants.
The Chief Justice set up a committee chaired by Sophia Adinyira, a Supreme Court Judge to interrogate them.
The three-hour video depicted literally bare-chested judges and court officials allegedly taking food stuffs as part of negotiations to set accused persons free.
It was premiered at the International Conference last October, notwithstanding attempts by counsels for the implicated judges to stop it.
