EC Boss Is Too Predictable - AFAG Claims

The chairman of the pro-opposition pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) Dr. Ayew Afriyie says the behavior of the Electoral Commissioner, Madam Charlotte Osei shows her position is on merit, binding her to protect a certain deal.

According to him, Madam Charlotte Osei’s initial refusal to heed to the advises of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) made her too predictable to suspect that her position is on merit so that she can protect a certain deal known to her and her appointer.

Speaking on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Dr. Ayew Afriyie averred the Electoral Commissioner has no respect for IPAC which the Supreme Court made a lot of emphases to EC to meet the body in order to the Commission, transparent and credible to the public.

The EC boss does not listen to any advice and the things she does has made her too predictable; it is as if her position is on merit and so she has to definitely protect a certain deal. Her ways are too predictable”, he chided.

There is an IPAC but the EC boss does not meet with the body; their meeting which should have taken place Jan 22, 2016 was postponed. The Director of Elections of NPP asked her severally but she said has no meeting with them but now that there is an issue, she will call for IPAC meeting? Why do you wait for people to shout at you before the truth comes out?” he quizzed.

Touching on the appointment of the members of the Steering Committee, Dr. Ayew Afriyie opined she should have consulted the advisory body which is a direct beneficiary of the elections to advise on the kind of people to appoint.

She has disguised the Steering Committee members and when we striped the committee, we have seen NDC members such as the Deputy NCCE boss on the committee. The EC didn’t consult the institutions to nominate their representatives but just appointed their preferential members to serve on the committee”, he asserted.

Dr. Ayew has therefore dared the deputy NCCE boss to come out to challenge AFAG’s assertion that he (Samuel Asare Akuamoah) is NDC sympathizer who has been seen severally on NDC platforms and even played an advisory role on NDC’s ministerial appointment.
