Immigration Personnel Asked To Be Professional, Disciplined

Mr Cletus Avoka, Chairman of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Board, has advised personnel of GIS to be guided by professionalism and discipline in the discharge of their duties to protect the interest of the country.

He gave the advice in Tamale at the weekend when members of the GIS Board made a brief stop in the Northern Region to interact with personnel of GIS and share with them measures being taken to improve their operations.

The GIS Board members were returning to Accra after visiting the Upper East Region to interact with personnel there.

Mr Avoka said honesty and hard work must be the hallmark of personnel of GIS adding they should distinguish themselves as a reliable quasi-security agency to better serve at the country’s entry points.

He said a lot of illegal activities such as smuggling of goods were taking place along the country’s entry points and urged personnel of GIS to work hard to stop them.

He assured that the GIS Board was doing everything possible to address challenges personnel faced in their operations.

He urged personnel to eschew negative tendencies and avoid undertaking unauthorized operations.

Mr Felix Yaw Sarpong, Director of GIS, emphasised the need for personnel of GIS to work to protect the interest of the country.

He advised them to desist from acts of corruption and malpractices saying those who would act contrary to the ethics of the profession would not be spared.

Mr Eric Afari, Assistant Northern Regional Director of GIS spoke about the challenges facing personnel and urged Management to work to address them to enhance work of the personnel in the region.

Mr Afari assured that personnel in the region were poised to work to protect the interest of the country.
