Mahama Deserves 2nd Term - Prof Alabi

Contrary to claims by the opposition that a second term for President John Dramani Mahama and his National Democratic Congress administration will spell doom for Ghana, vice chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, Prof Joshua Alabi thinks otherwise.

According to the respected Professor, Ghana stands a chance to make enormous gains if President John Mahama is reelected for a second term in the November 7 elections.

Taking his turn on Starr Fm’s Star Chart hosted by Bola Ray, the former Greater Accra regional Minister under the Rawlings administration said, “I have known Mahama from childhood. We lived around the same vicinity in Tamale. He is a humble guy.”

“He is doing well and should be given a second chance,” the former Northern Regional Minister noted, adding; “he is one President who has gone through a lot of demonstrations and he has been able to maintain his calm.”

“I strongly believe that given the next term, he will move Ghana to a different level. That is my belief. I’m saying this not because I’m lazy, but I just admire him for the way he’s been able to hold himself up,” he stated.
His comment comes at a time members of the biggest opposition party have been chiding the Mahama government for doing little to develop the country, claiming that, policies of the government have negatively impacted on Ghanaians.

Recently, the 2016 flag bearer of the opposition party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo implored Ghanaians not to make a mistake to give the Mahama government a second term.

According to Nana Akufo-Addo, the NDC government is bereft of any new ideas in the management of the nation’s resources for which reason it must be rejected at the November 7, polls.

But Prof Alabi, who is also member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana and fellow of the Institute of Taxation, disagreed, insisting that, despite the daunting challenges that confronted the Mahama government; its achievements so far indicate that when given a second term, the country will be better off.

"A lot of people will have been off with the numerous problems that he faced – the problem [election petition] in court for about eight months, single spine problems – and these are problems, which were not caused by him, but then once you are the president, you are in charge… he is really focused,” he noted
