Is EC Ready To Capsize This Country?- Amass Ghana Questions

Amass Ghana is shocked with great displeasure, following the sharp u-turn by the electoral commission debunking claims that the steering committee was never dissolved or suspended.

This is not the first time the EC has backtracked; fresh in the minds of Ghanaians is the issues of bloated register… the chairperson of EC came out with alarming figures revealing that her outfit had identified over 200,000 multiple registration cases in the Ashanti Regional voter register alone and latter backtracked.

It is of these revelations that Amass Ghana, a peace advocacy group, raises eye brows questioning the integrity and competency of the electoral commissioner.

The EC has taken certain decisions that clearly do not sit well with some Ghanaians. To beat a retreat and say, we erred, should not be beyond them, engaging us in war of words and semantics, is not going to help anyone either.

We all as citizens owe it a duty to ensure credible polls by making sure nothing malevolence happen, before, during and after the November 7, polls.

Trust is the best currency the commissioner has, and now it looks like our loyalty is being eroded and the moment one party or group of parties, decides to question the neutrality of the electoral commission that is the beginning of an outcome that will be questioned.

The activities of the electoral commissioner, Madam Charlotte Osei have since her appointment warranted a lot of questions as to whether she is fit for the job or unmerited. We cannot compromise on our freedom; it is non-negotiable.

Unlike other African countries, the inalienable right that is God-give, for us in Ghana, have not been taken away from us by any individual or group of people but let’s not forget that if the EC continue to engage itself in political gimmicks then; we must say the endings will not be too good for us as a country.

Amass Ghana is of the view that, the EC job is not a retirement package and is the second most difficult job of this country, apart from being the president and we are sure Madam Charlotte Osei knew what awaited her when she accepted to chair the commission and for that matter she should master courage and shake off the mistrust that is about to engulf her.

Amass Ghana believes that, the EC can discharge her duties without being swayed by political parties and for that matter various political parties especially the opposition New Patriotic Party and pro-NPP pressure groups such as Accountable For Alliance Governance (AFAG), Let My Vote Count (LMVC) and the rest which we cannot mention; should redraw their shadow hands and let the EC space to discharge its duties as mandated in the 1992 constitution, instead of breathing down their neck.

Grease to your elbow, Mr. Marthin A.B. K. Amidu for coming straight on the perceived to be non-partisan civil society organizations thus, LMVC and AFAG. These civil society groups are bias and for that matter cannot be left off political tags.

Amass Ghana thinks Ghanaians should disregard anything emanating from the camp of these pressure groups because they only seem to care about their parochial interest and have nothing good to offer the good people of Ghana… they pretend to be championing a good cause but only God knows what they are in for.

Recent is the brouhaha surrounding the EC’s steering committee… Amass Ghana is not aware that the constitution prohibits any citizen of Ghana from holding any public office merely because he had previously exercised his constitutional right to freedom of association and associated with a political party whose existence the very constitution guarantees.

Amass Ghana is worried that, all political parties that do not agree with anything resort to singing from the same hymn books.

It is in totality of this that, Amass Ghana  finds it prudent to say that some of the noises emanating from the pro-NPP pressure groups are just hot air, therefore; EC’s boss, Charlotte Osei should be stiff and strong in decision making in other to make sure that rules are not bend in fovour of any political party.

Thank you.
