NPP Strategises For More Seats In UE

The New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Upper East Region has inaugurated a Regional Campaign Team with the aim of winning more seats in the region and getting Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo elected as the President of Ghana come November 7.

The inauguration and the meeting that preceded it were behind closed doors and were attended by some National and Regional Executives of the party, as well as Constituency Executives, Parliamentary Candidates and all other aspirants who participated in the last primaries and lost.

Later, after the meeting, the Upper East Regional Youth Organiser, Ibrahim Bashiru in an interview with the media said the Upper East Regional Chairman of the Party, Mohammed Muntala is the Campaign Manager and will be assisted by all Regional Executives and seven others selected to join the team.

According to him, many of the campaign activities will be kept secret and be unfolded as and when a campaign stage requires it.

“The campaign is going to be a herculean task, but we are committed to make it possible. The party will work hard to win more Parliamentary seats in the Upper East Region. I will not put a figure out, but I know we are going to win more seats. We know the seats we are targeting and when the campaign starts, everybody will see.” Ibrahim Bashiru said.

In 2012 the New Patriotic Party had  two Parliamentary seats in the Upper East Region; Nabdam and Talensi Constituencies, but will be going into the 2016 general elections with just one Parliamentary seat; Nabdam Constituency seat. The Member of Parliament for Talensi, Robert Mosoro Doameng in 2015 was enstooled the Paramount Chief of the Tongo Traditional Area and the seat was later contested and won by the National Democratic Congress’s candidate, B.T. Baba.

According to Ibrahim Bashiru, many people in the Upper East Region are going to reject the NDC due to the general hardship they are facing and the many unfulfilled campaign promises.
