Tigo Network Modernization Advances To Tackle Demand For Mobile Data

Tigo has embarked on a modernization and mobile broadband expansion project as part of its network improving process to enhance mobile broad band coverage across the country.

The project which is worth $21million and involves the upgrade of 328 cell sites in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi is expected to be completed before the end of this year to improve user experience.

Tigo’s Chief Technology Information Officer, Ron Reddick told reporters when commissioning the company’s 326.4 square metre ultra-modern data centre in Accra: “Our goal is to meet the rapidly rising demand for mobile data usage of our customers." 

This network modernization exercise seeks to replace ageing cells sites and equipment with cutting edge models and software upgrades that will increase network capacity and efficiency.

He explained that the upgrade represents a significant network infrastructure investment and forms part of the company’s network planned expenditure for 2016.
