Mahamas "So-Called Fight Against Corruption Is A Sham"! Nana Addo

The 2016 flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo says efforts being made by the Mahama-led administration to fight corruption is a ‘sham’.

President John Mahama addressing Parliament on Thursday in his last State of the Nation Address touted his administration's fight against the canker saying “Corruption is a disease if not checked can choke off and kill a nation. It is an enemy of progress and development and a threat to peace and security. Mr. Speaker, it is therefore an obligation on all of us to mobilize our efforts in the fight against corruption. We have tackled corruption with determination and fortitude in an effort to stamp out systemic indiscipline in the fabric of public and social service. We have refused to bury our heads in the sun like the ostrich or adopt a defensive posture. The indifference of the past has given way to a refreshing blast of sunlight, a proven potent and enduring disinfectant for the canker of corruption. Mr. Speaker, this firm position and commitment has heightened public hope and confidence that the fight against corruption is winnable.”

But to counter the President’s assertion, Nana Addo delivering what the NPP believes to be "The Real State of the Nation" address said it is not true government is working hard in the fight against corruption.

According to him, “the president cannot point to one example where the exposure of corruption has come from his government. Each scandal that has been exposed in Mahama’s government was done by the media, civil society groups or the Minority in Parliament...”

Nana Akufo Addo further reiterated that the current administration is not winning the fight against corruption because the output of independent government institutions are being undermined by way of starving them off funds as the Auditor-General in 2013 under the late President Mills era complained bitterly about.

“The last time I said this, the government spokesmen were clearly unhappy but I will continue to say until I’m proven wrong with credible verifiable information- every time you see the Ridge Hospital, you should recall that according to the Crown Agents, the contract for the project has been inflated by $142 million dollars”.

“Again, every kilometer of road constructed by this government, every school block built under this government has cost more money than can be reasonably justified. It is clear from the actions taken on cases like Judgment Debts, World Cup saga, GYEEDA, SADA, DVLA saga, the Metro Mass branding, etc, that the fight against corruption is a sham. I say it again, the so called fight against corruption is a sham”,
Nana Addo jabbed.
