Mahamas Fight Against Corruption Is A Sham-Akufo Addo

Presidential Candidate for the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo in his real state of the nation address on Monday February 29, 2016 at Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons says President Mahama’s fight against corruption is a sham.

According to Nana Akufo Addo, each corruption scandal that has been exposed in Mahama’s government was done by the media, civil society groups and the Minority in Parliament as President John Mahama cannot point to one example where the exposure of corruption has come from his government.

President John Dramani Mahama in his state of the nation address in Parliament last Thursday February 25, 2016 as demanded by the constitution said the exposures of corruption under his administration points to the fact that he is committed to fighting corruption as he does not shield the offenders.

President Mahama added that the exposures of corruption under his watch do not also mean that his government is corruption but rather his willing to deal with corruption in the country has made the system transparent for the wrongdoers to be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

President Mahama however in his address insisted that the fight against corruption is winnable as he has put measures in place to report state officials who engages in corruption to be dealt with; stressing that there will be a look at the whistle blowers Act to make it operational.

But Nana Akufo Addo stating the real state of the nation said “seriously, the president cannot point to one example where the exposure of corruption has come from his government. Each scandal that has been exposed in Mahama’s government was done by the media, civil society groups or the Minority in Parliament”.

Nana Akufo Addo goes on to say that the claim of the fight against corruption by President Mahama further undermined the independent government institutions mandated to perform this function have been starved of funds as the Auditor-General in 2013 under the late President Mills era complained bitterly about.

“The last time I said this, the government spokesmen were clearly unhappy but I will continue to say until I’m proven wrong with credible verifiable information- every time you see the Ridge Hospital, you should recall that according to the Crown Agents, the contract for the project has been inflated by $142 million dollars”.

“Again, every kilometer of road constructed by this government, every school bloc built under this government has cost more money than can be reasonably justified. It is clear from the actions taken on cases like Judgment Debts, World Cup saga, GYEEDA, SADA, DVLA saga, the Metro Mass branding, etc, that the fight against corruption is a sham. I say it again, the so called fight against corruption is a sham”, Nana Addo jabbed.
