Hiddink: Baba has to do his job well

The Blues coach wants a quick and better response from the Ghanaian in the wake of last weekend’s howler at St Mary’s.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has thrown more light on Baba Rahman’s situation following the defender’s half-time withdrawal in the Blues' 2-1 win over Southampton on Saturday.

The Ghana international was substituted following his blunder in setting up Shane Long for the Saints’ goal on 42 minutes at St Mary’s.

Cesc Fabregas and Branislav Ivanovic, however, spared the 21-year-old’s blushes with two goals in the second-half, the winner coming as late as on 89 minutes.

“We have talked to him [Baba], me and [assistant] Steve [Holland],” Hiddink told pressmen ahead of Tuesday’s away clash with Norwich City.

“Of course he was upset, you saw the image on the pitch where he had his shirt over his head. At half-time, he was sitting in the dressing room feeling down.

“He has to recover but you cannot always wait. He produced some decent play in recent games but we like to be critical because defensively, you have to do your job as well.”

Having joined the Blues from German side Augsburg last summer, Baba has so far made six Premier League appearances and four in the Uefa Champions League.

Chelsea currently sit on 11th position on the league log after 27 matches.
