One Dies During Police Dawn Operation

An encounter between residents of a hideout of suspected drug dealers and a police taskforce in a dawn operation in Ho has left one person dead.

The victim, who is only known for now as “Fulani,” died on the way to hospital from gun shots wounds he received during a shootout with the police during the operation.

The Volta Regional Crime officer of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Adamu Seidu, confirmed the death and said investigations were underway to ascertain the true identity of the deceased whose body had been deposited at the Ho Municipal hospital.

Narrating circumstances leading to the incident, Supt. Adamu said the police went to Kpakpo, a suburb of Ho, located behind the Metro Mass Transit station, to arrest suspected drug dealers.

He added that some of the suspected drug dealers engaged in a struggle with one of the policemen, leading to one AK 47 rifle falling.

A police officer went to the rescue and a melee ensued, during which the gun went off and hit one of the suspected drug dealers in the abdomen.

Supt Adamu said the suspect fell down and was rushed to the Ho Municipal Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

He disclosed that 10 persons had been arrested in connection with the incident and were in police detention. They will be processed for court soon.
