Eco-Brigade Launched

As part of efforts by the government to ensure environmental sanitation along coastal regions, Zoil a subsidary of Zoomlion Ghana Limited has established an Eco-Brigade project at Esiama in the Western Region. The project aims to employ 10,000 people in the Western, Central, Greater Accra and Volta Regions respectively to ensure clean environment along the coastal beaches. The Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Hon. Sherry Ayittey at the launch stated that , the task of ensuring a safe and supportive environment is a herculean one that requires the support and active Collaboration of government, civil society as wall as private enterprises. she emphasised that the project will not only be restricted to the Coast but also, plant economic trees such as coconut, also for the coast to support a potential edible oil industry in the future, also plant and replenish the depleted mangrove Honurable Sheerry Ayittey, therefore, encuraged the youth living along the coast who will be employed, to take advantage of the opportunity and be dedicated to their work, have a passionate and unwavering commitment for the benefit of both Ghanaians and zoil for a positive results. The Minirster for Energy, Dr. Joe Oteng- Adjei stated that in order to achieve a higher level of development and better living standards, there should be a change in attitude toward the environmentt and steps must be taken to address the environment related problems. According to Mr. Oteng-Adjei, Zoil�s commitment to partnering the goverment is one of the greatest challenges facing the country, he was hopeful that the oil spill recovery, beach cleaning and reforestation operations will help in the realisation of Government�s agenda of job creation and environment sanitaitons as well as holistic development. The Minister for health, honourable Sipa Yankey said the project will contribute greatly to improve the conditions of the coastal town, the people around the community beachas and also reduce people's susceptibility to diseases and infections. The Manager of Zoil, Mr. Opoku Manu said Eco Brigade project is committed to ensuring cleanliness of beaches of the country and also, reciting of 10.000 people from the coastal communities along the country�s four coastal regions. According to Mr. Manu, Zoil Ghana limited believes that the project will ensure environmental sanitation along the coastal towns to make Ghana number one tourism destination in Africa. The Western Regional Minister, Honourable Evans Paul Aidoo, said he is happy that the project is being launched in his region and also, commemcing from the Western Region.
