BA Chiefs Lack Expertise

The Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs says it lacks the capacity and the technical know how to settle numerous chieftaincy disputes that have been brought before it for amicable settlement.

It said though the house resolved about 10 cases last year, about 50 cases are still pending.

This, according to the President of the house, Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese, is due to the lack of expertise on the part of the chiefs to handle cases to the satisfaction of the factions.

He said various parties in disputes have withdrawn cases before the house after mediation.

In line with this, Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese v, who is also Yeji Omanhene, disclosed that the House has decided to hire the services of a legal expert to take the chiefs through the settlement of chieftaincy disputes.

He therefore pleaded with the chiefs avail to themselves for the two-day exercise, which comes off from 22-23 March, 2016 and will be facilitated by a judge.

Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese revealed this yesterday during the first general meeting of the house in 2016 at Sunyani.

The most disturbing aspect of the chieftaincy dispute is that the more the house tries to settle disputes before it, the more cases are lodged with it.

He said the House had failed to raise money to pay for shipment of 23,000 books that citizens of the region in overseas have bought for onward distribution to schools in the region.

He said due to this, the House, through the regional minister, Eric Opoku had appealed to all municipal and district assemblies in the region to bear the cost of shipment of the books from abroad to support schools in the region.

Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese said the House would venture into the hostel business to accommodate students that are admitted to tertiary institutions in the region like Sunyani Polytechnic, Catholic University and others.

The House, he said, will also build stores on its premises to rent out to individuals and institutions.

The President of the House asked his colleagues to welcome political parties to their traditional areas but not to support them through their utterances, saying “Nananom must support all parties in the country.”

The House also used the occasion to induct two paramount chiefs- Obrempon Kru Takyi II, Omanhene of Abease Traditional Area and BarimaTwereku Ampem III of Ntrotroso Traditional Area.
