Constituency Executives Played No Role In NPP Klottey Korle Re-run

First Vice Chairman of the NPP in the Klottey Korle Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Alhaji Aliu Kabi has revealed the executives at the Constituency level had no hand in the organization of the re-run of the party’s primaries.

He explained that, as compared to the earlier primaries which saw the victory of the embattled Nii Noi Nortey as the Parliamentary candidate the executives at the constituency level were directly involved in the organization.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Alhaji Aliu Kabi said the reason behind their disengagement in the organization is based on the allegation from the party’s National Executives that the Constituency Executives connived with the suspended General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong to work out things to favor Nii Noi Nortey.

He again hinted that the re-run recorded a lot of irregularities as the polls which was scheduled for 8am rather begun earlier than that, adding there was no accreditation for the delegates.

“The truth of the matter is that, the constituency executives had no hand in the re-run of the primaries; it was a national takeover and we didn’t know why it happened that way. We didn’t play any role in the re-run and we remember the notice of poll was 8am but as I reached there at 7:10am, about 40 delegates had already cast their vote,” he disclosed.

“There was no accreditation to the delegates but people voted per facial recognition and in the end, Lawyer Philip Addison won the Klottey Korle primaries. No single executive took part in the organization of the re-run,” he added.

He again admitted that there was a record of over-voting at the end of the re-run when the EC gave out the results; stressing that “we also realized that about 96 percent of the delegates turned out to vote when we cross-checked with the list of the people who signed in the book for their transportation fares.”

To him, though the Klottey Korle seat is in the hands of the NDC, it is a swing seat and it will require unity and cohesion to take over the seat from the NDC; adding that the Constituency Executives are not happy with the decision of Nii Noi Nortey to go independent in the 2016 polls as every single vote counts.

He however assured that the executives at the constituency level will not give up as a party as they have made up their minds to go into this election to win the seat, but pleaded with the leaders of his party to talk to Nii Noi Nortey to rescind his decision to go independent.

“If Nii Noi Nortey says he is going, we will plead with some leaders of the party to talk to him to rescind his decision because this is what will help the party, but if he insists to go independent, then we need to prepare adequately for the elections and if God helps us to win the seat, it is God who has given the seat to us,” he stated.
