Dialysis Machine Commissioned At Volta Regional Hospital

Madam Helen Adjoa Ntoso, the Volta Regional Minister, on Thursday commissioned a dialysis unit for the Volta Regional Hospital.

The commissioning coincided with the celebration of the World Kidney Day and provides the hospital the capacity to manage and treat kidney failure and other kidney related ailments.

The four NIPRO Surdial 55+dialysis machines worth 50,000 dollars were donated to the hospital by D.Med Healthcare AG Limited, following appeals by the Asogli Queenmothers’ Association.

The Ghana Oil Company Limited, (GOIL) also provided a water treatment machine at a cost of GHC 28,000.00 for the facility.

Dr Joseph Nuertey, the Volta Regional Director of Health Services, said lack of a dialysis unit at the hospital caused the death of many people and was happy the with the arrival of the machine.

He asked the public to show great compassion to people living with kidney related ailments, saying, “They need good care and love.”

Madam Ntoso commended the Asogli Queenmothers’ Association for the foresight and also expressed gratitude to D. Med Healthcare and GOIL for the support.

Dr John Tampuori, the Medical Director, Volta Regional Hospital, told the Ghana News Agency that the hospital used to refer about nine patients every month to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for kidney related ailments.

He said the dialysis unit would help improve healthcare delivery in the region.

Mama Attrato II, the Coordinator of Asogli Queenmothers’ Association, said the Association was happy the Regional Hospital could now deliver “cutting-edge” medical services to the more than two million people in the region and patients from neighbouring countries.
