It Is Curse To Those Who Hooted At Prez Mahama - Yamoah Ponkoh

Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh has chided those Ashanti mourners, who hooted at President John Mahama at the funeral ceremony of Bantamahene, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatiah V.

Some mourners that thronged the funeral of the late Bantamahene, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatiah V reportedly hooted at President John Dramani Mahama and his entourage at the funeral grounds.

The mourners who were clad in black and carried the flag of the NPP - started to hoot at the President after the arrival of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo at the funeral grounds.

But Yamoah Ponkoh on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show fumed that the act of the mourners did not disgrace only President Mahama but rather showed disrespect to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu as the head of the Ashanti Kingdom who invited the President to grace the occasion.

According to him, the tradition of the Ashanti Kingdom is such that anybody whose action brings a disgrace and disrespect to Otumfuo directly has brought curse to themselves as it is a taboo to dishonour the Ashanti King.

“The action of the mourners in Ashanti Kingdom has a meaning; they didn’t only show disrespect to the President but rather they have disgraced the Asantehene. So any Ashanti who took part in this disgraceful act should know that, per our tradition, they have in a way placed a curse unto themselves because nobody can disrespect Otumfuo in any way,” he asserted.

He therefore strongly reminded the NPP that their action against President John Dramani Mahama during the funeral ceremony of the Bantamahene will not change the November 7 polls as majority of Ghanaians have made up their minds to allow the President to continue his work.
