Mahama Wants Debate To Clear Contentious Statements Not To Solve Problems - NDC Dept Sec

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Lawson says the debate President John Mahama requested of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) leader, Nana Akufo-Addo has nothing to do with solving the problems of the country.

According to him, the debate proposed by the President is meant to address the many contentious statements made by Nana Akufo-Addo on the state of the country.

The 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo stated in his "Real State of the Nation Address" that the President got it wrong with Ghana’s total debt because the actual debt of the country has ballooned to $37 billion and not $24 billion.

According to Nana Akufo-Addo, if the debate will solve Ghana’s problem then he is ready to debate President John Mahama anytime, anywhere and any day.

But the deputy Chief Scribe of the NDC on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show averred that the President’s proposal to debate Nana Addo should be twisted to mean that the debate is about solving Ghana’s problems.

He insisted the debate the President talked about is to clear the air surrounding the total debt of the country in order for Ghanaians to know which leader is telling lies as this will put the matter to rest in the minds of Ghanaians.

“President Mahama didn’t say the debate he talked about is to solve problems; he wants to debate Nana Akufo-Addo on the contentious figures he mentioned about the total debt stock of the country. Nobody should change the issue the President raised; he wants to challenge Nana Akufo-Addo so that everybody will know who is telling lies in this country,” he argued.
