Be Bold To Enforce Discipline In Schools - Lawyer

The management of higher education institutions have been asked to act boldly to tackle the growing indiscipline and aberrant conduct among students.

Mr. Cletus Alengah, a private legal practitioner, said the pursuit of academic excellence must be balanced with good character training.

The young people must be assisted to conform to high moral and ethical standards.

Presenting a paper at the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Spiritan University College in Ejisu, he said this was important to assure the nation of responsible and accountable leaders.

Mr. Alengah wondered why a university student could stab a colleague student over “a little misunderstanding” and said such violent behavior was objectionable and totally unacceptable.

“It raises questions about the kind of moral training our universities are giving to the youth.”

He suggested the strengthening of disciplinary measures in the institutions to bring about good behavior.

Mr. Alengah, an alumnus of the university college, applauded the management for the strong strides it was making towards becoming a first class private institution.

He used the occasion to counsel the students to work hard to live their academic dreams
