Retired Superintendant of Police, Kofi Twumisi has alleged that former Sports Ministers, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and Mahama Ayriaga should be blamed for destroying the Sports Ministry

According to him, the former Ministers never lived up to expectation since their actions contributed to the Sports Ministry going broke, and their era never saw any transformation.

“Because of their bad behaviors towards the Sports Ministry it cost Ghana and made our Ministry broke.This Ministers are walking about and nothing has been done to them,” he cried.

He further stated that, the Black Stars took all the money that could have been used for Sports development, with Afriyie Ankrah carrying money to Brazil without proper planning.

“I commend Nii Lante Vanderpuye for speaking the truth and saying it as it is at the Ministry. I wished he was made the Sports Minister some years ago, but notwithstanding he will work with the limited time.

“We carried all our eggs in one basket . . . football has destroyed all our sports disciplines. There is no money,” he stressed.

According to the retired Superintendant of police, the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) is the only body that could solicit for funds for the other sports disciplines and the Ministry, but yet Professor Francis Dudoo’s led administration has done little especially in an Olympic year.

“GOC must go out there seeking sponsors and other corporate bodies to support the other bodies going to the Olympics, but instead are rather going to the government to take money for their games.”

“I feel the government has not trained people enough and that they don’t have any plans whatsoever for the various sporting disciplines,” he said. 

The various associations preparing for the upcoming Rio Olympics have failed and it will be in our interest not to go and waste resources and time at Rio in Brazil.
