The skipper and coach of the Black Stars have shed light on the return of the shot-stopper.
Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is elated by the return of goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey to national duty.
The Portland Timbers shot-stopper fell out with the technical team of the Black Stars at the 2014 Fifa World Cup over favouritism allegations, provoking a sabbatical from national assignment.
Having rescinded his decision, the 28-year-old has reported to camp for the first time ahead of Ghana’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with Mozambique set for Thursday.
“Maybe Kwarasey felt he had to say what he saw [and he did], so I don’t think it should be a problem [anymore],” Gyan told reporters.
“He’s still a great goalkeeper who is young and doing well at his club. We have been expecting him for a while now so I think that it is right that he is finally here with us.
“We are happy to see Kwarasey because he is a great talent.”
In a related development, coach Avram Grant insists he didn’t have to persuade the goalkeeper to make a comeback.
“I didn’t need to convince Kwarasey to join the squad,” Grant said.
“Players have to prove that they deserve to be in the squad.”
Ghana play Mozambique at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday before the return encounter three days later.
