President John Dramani Mahama has signed the book of condolence at the residence of late NPP’s former National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey.

He however admired Jake’s contribution in maintaining peace and democracy in the country whiles alive.

President Mahama made this known when he signed the book of condolence for the late NPP Chairman at his residence – he was accompanied by Communications Minster Edward Omane Boamah and other government officials.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey died early Sunday in London after a short illness - he served in various ministerial positions during the Kufuor administration and led the NPP in the 2012 general elections.

In a chitchat with Jake’s family, the President noted that - “We all know the role he played in our democratic process from 1992 to date. He served as the Chairman of the NPP and even in the most turbulent times when adversarial competitiveness was at its height, people like Jake maintained the calm and working together, we’ve always been able to calm the waters and that is part of what has created Ghana as a model of democracy in Africa.

“And so his passing is only fitting that as President of the Republic of Ghana I come to mourn with the family and extend the support of the government in this difficult time to help the family with any arrangement,” Mahama said.
