Mr Francis Oti Frempong, the Central Regional Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has advised accredited Healthcare Service Providers in the Region to update their contracts to avoid rejection of their NHIA claims. 

Providers, M. Frempong said, must also ensure that their credentials were also updated to strengthen their dealings with the NHIA.

The Regional Director was opening the 2015 end of year review conference of the Central Region Branch of the National Health Insurance Authority at Cape Coast.

More than 50 core officers drawn from the 13 branch schemes in the Region attended the conference held at the Sasakawa Centre at the University of Cape Coast.

Mr Frempong said the reviewed medicines prices and service tariffs came into effect from March 1, 2016, adding that copies of the new prices and tariffs have already been distributed to all service providers in the Region for effective and excellent stakeholders team work. 

He said that the Regional Directorate expects all providers in the Region to submit their March, 2016 claims based on the reviewed tariffs hoping that this would automatically and effectively free NHIA clients from alleged co-payment and top-ups. 

Mr Frempong said the outstanding claims for 2015 operational year had been paid up to July 2015, and all efforts were being made to clear the rest, and praised providers in the area for their high level of cordial working relations  between them and the NHIA. 

He said that notwithstanding the numerous operational challenges which confronted the NHIA in the past year, the Central Region branch of the Scheme exceeded the membership target of 716,700 it set for itself for the year under review by eight (8) percent at the end of the year.

Mr Frempong said that the Region recorded a total membership of 777,620 by the end of December last year, representing thirty-one (31) percent of the Region’s population of 2,543,151people.    

He commended NHIA workers in the Region for their hard work and advised them to work harder than before to achieve greater results this year.

The Regional Director was full of praise for workers of the Awutu Effutu Senya branch Scheme for capturing the first position place of the best premium collection Schemes in the country during the 2015 operational year.
