Global sportswear brand PUMA has launched a new initiative to unearth young Ghanaian talents between the ages of 13-16 from across communities in Ghana starting with the Greater Accra Region.

According to officials at Cute Events Trading Limited, franchise holders of PUMA in Ghana, the idea behind the “School of Speed” initiative which is being pushed globally by PUMA, is to encourage the growth and create opportunities for the younger generation through sports and academia.

At an impressive launch ceremony in Accra on March 21, 2016, Cindy Eghan, Country Representative of PUMA Ghana, stated that “School of Speed is to help school children to combine sports and academia in order to realize their talents, dreams and aspirations.”

“Sports brings people together and breaks barriers between culture, religion and class. It promotes fitness and health, teamwork and competitiveness and helps our children explore talents out of the classroom,” Eghan added.

According to PUMA, it plans to scout for a School of Speed Team and provide them with the opportunity to refine, develop their skills as well as providing a platform for their talents to be noticed by well pivotal individuals in global football.

Ghana’s Deputy Sports Minister, Mr. Vincent Oppong Asamoah who launched the School of Speed project described the initiative as a groundbreaking concept that will enhance government-corporate partnerships in sports development across the country

The event which took place at the popular Indafa Park in Mamprobi was attended by some global officials of PUMA, ex-Black Stars players like Stephen Appiah, Tony Baffoe and Joe Addo as well as the Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Mr Oti Akenten, former Hearts of Oak players Adjah Tetteh and Amankwah Mireku and also officials of the Ghana Education Service.

An exhibition match was played between some selected kids of schools and prizes were given to deserving players.
