Abuakwa North By-Election: We Need Numbers To Tell A Big Story In 2016 Awuku

The National Youth Organizer of the largest opposition New patriotic Party(NPP), Sammy Awuku says although the Abuakwa-North bye-election is a done deal for the NPP, the party is careful to guard against complacency in that race.

“We’ll attach importance to every race, even compound prefect… we won’t take the by-election for granted, because not everybody voted for us in our strongholds, beyond this you must get the numbers to be able to send a signal to your opponents. if the NPP won by 100 in the time of J.B and this time we now win by 60 then it shows that we’re not getting popularity on the grounds,” Sammy Awuku told Fiifi Banson on the sidelines of the birthday celebrations of the biggest opposition leader, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He turns 72 years today, March 29, 2016.

About 40,000 voters in Abuakwa North constituency in the Eastern Region are expected to vote today (Tuesday) to elect a new Member of Parliament for the area following the murder of the former MP, J.B Danquah Adu last month.

The by-election is taking place in 69 polling stations.

The NPP’s Gifty Twum Ampofo is being challenged by Samuel Frimpong of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) and the United People’s Party’s Isaac Kwarteng.

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) pulled out of the by-election because according to a statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, they were “stunned by the death of the late MP Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, particularly circumstances surrounding his gruesome murder that brought the nation to a standstill.
