Ban Ki-moon Lauds Ghana

The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Mr. Ban Ki-moon, has applauded Ghana for its democratic credentials and pioneering role in peacekeeping operations around the globe. He said the recent advice given by President Mills on his Togolese counterpart, Mr. Faure Gnassingbe, to ensure free, fair and transparent polls in that country�s forthcoming elections was a step in the right direction. Mr. Ban Ki-moon made the commendations when he held a closed door meeting with President Mills ahead of the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Briefing the media later, the Communications Director of the President, Mr. Koku Anyidoho, said Mr. Ban Ki-moon praised President Mills for his leadership role in the West African sub-region in particular and the African continent as a whole. He aid the UN Secretary-General also praised Ghana�s role in the UN Mission Operations and the high standards of professionally being exhibited by the troops in peacekeeping operations in different parts of the world.
