The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of McDan Shipping Company Limited, who has been linked with the three deported South African retired police officers saga, has reported himself to the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
Dr Daniel McKorley voluntarily showed up at the BNI offices on Wednesday without a lawyer, put down a statement and was granted bail.
According to BNI sources, he left the BNI premises after meeting the bail condition.
“We are now waiting for the Director of the Danquah Institute to report himself to the BNI,” the sources told the Daily Graphic in an interview in Accra.
They said despite the deportation of the three South African police officers last Tuesday, investigations into circumstances that led to the arrival of the three would continue.
Three South Africans
The presence of the three retired South African police officers, who were arrested in the Central Region for allegedly engaging in activities with national security implications, led to the arrest and questioning of Capt. Edmund Kojo Koda (retd), the head of the security detail of the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Captain Kwesi Acquah (retd), the owner of Delta Security Services.
The three — Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis (retd), 54; Warrant Officer Denver Dwayhe, 33, and Captain Mlungiseli Jokani, 45 — were arrested at the EL-Capitano Hotel where they had been based since arriving in Ghana.
They were said to be training 15 young men in various security drills, including unarmed combat, weapon handling, VIP protection techniques and rapid response exercises for the NPP.
Deportation
The three South Africans were put on board South African Airways flight number 210, which departed the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) around 9:26 a.m. last Tuesday for Johannesburg.
Their entry visas were revoked by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
Officials from the GIS and a security detail from the BNI escorted the three to the aircraft, which was yet to be boarded by other passengers.
The Daily Graphic witnessed the scene as the three were made to board the aircraft around 8:29 a.m. on Tuesday. They were not handcuffed and had no security escort from Ghana.
