Nii Ashietey Claims NDC Executives Are Working Against Him In Favour Of Zanetor

The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the Klottey Korle constituency, Nii Armah Ashietey, who is currently battling Dr Zanetor Rawlings for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary ticket has indicated that he was being guided by the principles of probity, accountability and transparency which established the NDC..

According to him the virtues of the party must reign supreme especially now.

He accused party executives of working against his candidature and said he has even received death threats ever since he commenced the court action against Dr Rawlings.

He said probity, accountability, transparency and positive defiance were the virtues of the NDC and that, "some of us have been with it for all these years and I don’t think we are now saying that we are throwing all these things to the dogs. I don’t think so”.

Nii Armah Ashietey who was speaking on Asempa F.M said he was unperturbed about suggestions that the party had thrown its weight behind Dr Zanetor Rawlings, rather he was more interested in establishing the truth of the case in the court of law.

“There must only be one law for everybody. Everybody must be equal before the law. Today it is my turn.
Tomorrow it’s going to be another person. Maybe it will be the turn of people who have turned their eyes to the truth, tomorrow it will be their turn so the right thing must be done”, he said.

Mr Ashietey who is in court to challenge the eligibility of Dr Zanetor Rawlings' candidature for the 2016 elections stated that the rule was clear on the requirement of a contesting candidate which stipulates that:

“.... shall not qualify to contest a primary for any parliamentary seat if that member fails to satisfy the requirement for the election of a member of parliament as provided under article 941(a) of the constitution that is to be a citizen of Ghana, to be 21 years old and above and to be a registered voter”

He therefore does not understand why the party has turned a blind eye to that fact.

Nii Armah Ashitey is in court on claims that Dr Agyeman-Rawlings is not a registered voter and, therefore, not qualified to be elected as a parliamentary candidate for the NDC.
