PHOTO: Police Killer Arrested In Techiman

The Techiman Municipal police command has arrested one Osman Bary, 32, suspected to have killed a police officer last month.

The suspect, popularly known as AI Sali, a Fulani man believed to be a citizen of Burkina Faso but a resident of Anyimana a suburb of Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region was apprehended upon a tip off, police say.

Briefing the media on Sunday, the Techiman Muicipal police commander, Superintendent Mahmoud Yussif disclosed that Osman was arrested at 8:00am Sunday at his hideout at Anyimana when police pursued the issue.

He added that Bary admitted to committing the crime upon police interrogation.

Corporal Yaw Lakpao,the apolice detective Bary who met his untimely death was on his way to Sawla district capital after a night duty when he was ambushed and shot by suspected armed robbers, on Friday, 25th March, 2016.

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP had earlier asserted that the deceased, 34, was in Uniform when he was found shot enroute to Kalba.

Chief Superintendent Yussif, told Peacefmonline.com that Detective Corporal Yaw Lakpao, was killed by Osman Bary and his accomplice Mohammed Musah, 32 who were from armed robbery and thought the police officerwas on his way to give information about their robbery.

"Asking him to surrender, they shot him in the ribs, killing him instantly," Mr Yussif said.

Peacefmonline.com gathers that Osman Bary, the defendant, is known in the area as a livestock dealer.

Narrating the incident further, Mr Yussif added that Mohammed Musah,Bary's accomplice was arrested by the Sawla-Kalba District Police Command on the 26th of March and mentioned Osman Bary as his accomplice of the atrocious act.

Currently, Mohammed Musah is in Tamale Central Prison on remand after his arrest.

According to the police, Osman Bary has been sent to Tamale Regional Police Command for further investigations since that is the area he committed the crime.
