No More Publicity For Herbal Clinics After Regulation--GHS

In times of yore, certain diseases were cured by herbalists whiles others were treated through orthodox means at the hospitals, like the medical centres we have here in Ghana. Overnight, traditional herbalists have become doctors and offering treatment to certain diseases, originally believed to be the "preserve" of western medical practitioners. As if this is not bad enough, the herbal clinics have taken it upon themselves to publicly announce their abilities and capabilities on our airwaves and television stations; a practice, virtually frown upon by the Ghana Health Service(GHS) and the Ghana Medical Association (GMA). But unlike the orthodox hospitals, these herbal centers literally fight and compete with each other through advertisement about their service. The mind boggling question is, why are hospitals and clinics not given the opportunity to also embark on this kind of media hype? Peace FMs Akua Adufa Aboagye-Mintah sought answers from the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Elias Sory. It is as a result of lack of regulations, he said. According to him, the GHS is working on regulations to guide the practice of herbal clinics, and after they have been regulated, they wont publicize themselves again.
