After All The Nasty Noise, NPP Failed To Use A Credible Register At Ablekuma West

The New Patriotic Party continues to flay the Electoral Commission of Ghana for failing to provide a ‘credible’ voters’ register as the nation prepares for the November polls.

The party on several occasions has accused the commission of scheming to aid the National Democratic Congress in the general election.

However, the party’s inability to compile a credible register to be used in the just ended Ablekuma West Parliamentary primaries which was won by Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has angered Alhaji Ibrahim Dori to pepper them for being a disreputable political party.

The New Patriotic Party had to merge two albums into one before the elections could come on. It ended with Ursula Owusu Ekuful polling 554 representing 63.60% out of the total vote cast.

Her closest rival, Roni Nicole polled 317 representing 36.40%  but a third candidate, who happens to be a former Constituency Chairman, had to pull out some few days to the event citing illegality in the process leading to the polls.

The allegations came mainly from Theophilus Tetteh, who withdrew from the race on Friday April 8, in protest to the use of two registers for the poll, which he felt was drawn up by the MP with the connivance of the NEC, to give her an advantage in the race.

It is on this note that Alhaji Ibrahim Dori believes the NPP and its pro- pressure groups like AFAG and LMVC “should give us a break and respect and appreciate the work of the EC in registering, pilling and validating the nation's electoral register.

He was shocked the party had made “nasty noise” across the country and couldn’t afford to use a credible roll at Ablekuma West Constituency during their primaries.

In an interview with Peacefmonline.com, he stated that “the NPP has failed internally to put up a credible register of less than 1000 delegates for the purposes of voting for a parliamentary candidate for the Ablekuma West Constituency amidst massive resignation by its constituency executives”.

He continued that “both candidates who entered into the race had their names missing in the register compiled by the NPP. This disgraceful act vindicates the EC over NPP's insistence and consistent behaviour of demonizing the EC over our electoral roll”.

He therefore told the NPP to spare Ghanaians the “cacophonous cry” for a new voter register and never to question the credibility of the current register.
