UPP Warns President Mahama: Stop Using Tax Payer Money To Finance Odike

The leadership of the United Progressive Party (UPP) has warned the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President John Dramani Mahama to desist from the habit of financing the dismissed National Chairman and 2016 Flagbearer of the UPP, Akwesi Addai Odike.

In a press statement copied to Peacefmonline.com, the leadership of UPP is again admonishing the NDC and President Mahama to stop using tax payers' money on Akwesi Addai Odike because the UPP was not founded to do the agenda of the NDC.

“We are independent registered political party not subjected to the dictates of any person or another political party...the leadership of the UPP wishes to caution the NDC and H.E President John Mahama to cease the habit of using the tax payer money to finance Akwesi Addai Odike,” the statement read.

The Press Statement also cautioned the Electoral Commission (EC) that Akwesi Addai Odike has been dismissed from UPP since March 18, 2016 and as such does not have any legal basis to contest on the ticket of UPP as Presidential Candidate in the November 7, 2016 polls.

The statement therefore urged the Electoral Commissioner, Madam Charlotte Osei to issue a public statement to debunk the perception of compromise being alleged against the Commission by Odike that he has been receiving briefing from the EC after his dismissed from the party.

UPP Cautions EC And President Mahama

The leadership of the United Progressive Party (UPP) wishes to caution the NDC and H.E President John Mahama to cease the habit of using the tax payer money to finance Akwesi Addai Odike (dismissed National Chairman & 2016 Flagbearer of UPP) as Odike claimed in a leaked tape.

UPP was not founded to do the agenda of the NDC. We are independent registered political party not subjected to the dictates of any person or another political party.

We would like to also caution the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana that:

1. Akwesi Addai Odike has been dismissed from UPP dated 18th March 2016 and as such he has no legal basis to contest as Presidential candidate on the ticket of the party in this year 7th November 2016 general election.

2. The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) must issue a public statement to debunk the Perception of Compromise been alleged against them by Akwesi Addai Odike that he has been receiving briefing from the Electoral Commission in all matters regarding the Commission and that the Electoral Commission had assisted him to remove documents which has the tendency to work against him from the Files of UPP at the Electoral Commission Head Office.

3. The leadership of UPP do hope that the Electoral Commission will not secretly collaborate with Akwesi Addai Odike to file to contest on the ticket of UPP as it was done in the 2012 general election on the ticket of UFP whereby two Presidential Nomination Forms were issued to UFP at the same time by the Electoral Commission which was against the Electoral Laws of Ghana. Such ugly incident can never happen to the NPP or the NDC.

4. UPP shall strictly RESIST any attempt by the Electoral Commission to unlawfully impose Akwesi Addai Odike (dismissed National Chairman & 2016 Presidential Candidate of UPP) on the Party as the Presidential Candidate in this year 7th November 2016 general election.
