The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has decided to transport examination papers by air as part of efforts aimed at curbing leakages that has characterised the examinations.
According to Accra based Citi FM, two people, a police officer and an official from WAEC will be the only people who will now accompany the papers by-air to the the various WAEC regional offices.
WAEC is said to have already started transporting the examination papers by air.
WAEC has been hit by a recurring leakage of its examination questions at the junior and senior high school levels.
The recent leakage, which has been described by officials of the examination body as “fore-knowledge of the paper before going to the examination hall” has led to a public outcry, with some calling for the resignation of its Chief Executive Officer, Reverend Sam Nii Nmai Ollenu.
Meanwhile, three persons, two teachers and a candidate at the Opoku Ware Girls Senior High School in the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi are being investigated for their alleged role in the leakage of the Literature in English questions.
They include the Headmaster of the Ascension SHS, Mr Ekow Quashie, and the Literature in English teacher of the school, Ms Esther Boakyewaa.
A fourth suspect, Mr Collins Yeboah, last Friday escaped arrest when his friends allegedly attacked a policeman detailed to effect his arrest at the Ascension Senior High School (SHS) in Kumasi.
In 2015, the council dismissed two of its members of staff following the leak of Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) questions.
