Twitter Goes Down For Millions Of Users Globally

Millions of Twitter users were unable to access the popular social media service on Thursday afternoon when the site crashed.

Users in Australia, Asia and some parts of the US reported getting a error page pop up when they tried to access the web site.

The outage started just before 1pm AEST, according to downdetector.com.

Downdetector.com keeps track of issues with social media pages.

Across the globe, more than 1,100 people reported an issue with Twitter between 12pm and 1pm, the site said.

A Twitter spokesman confirmed there had been issues with the site.

However, it only affected the micro-blogging site and not the firm's other services, including Vine and Periscope.

The statement said: 'Some users are currently experiencing problems accessing Twitter. We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution,' he said at the time.

Service was restored almost an hour later, with social media users breathing a sigh of relief.

The same problem was affecting users in the United States and Japan, according to Business Insider.

Daily Mail Australia also understands services were down in Hong Kong.

While people using third-party platforms, like Tweetdeck or Hootsuite, reported they had limited access.
