Hoteliers Urged To Conserve Energy

Mr Kofi Agyarko, Head of the Energy Efficiency Division of Ghana Energy Commission, has urged hoteliers to desist from the use of inefficient bulbs and adopt the low-energy LED system of lighting to conserve energy.

Speaking on the theme ‘Reducing Energy cost through sound Application’ at the  National Executive meeting of the Ghana Hotels Association (GHA) in Koforidua, Mr Agyarko said it is about time hotels adopted the Terminal Card System (TCS) to help control and conserve energy to boost their businesses.

Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, the Eastern Regional Minister called on the Hoteliers to make it a practice to switch off high-consuming appliances when not in use and said this would help to conserve energy.

She urged the GHA to provide the needed logistics and organize programs that would to help build the capacity of operators to maximize their profits.

She entreated workers of the various hotels to report any suspicious character to the appropriate security agency for the necessary action to be taken in the face of increasing suspicion of terrorist attacks.

The National President of the GHA, Mr Herbert Acquaye appealed to the government to review downwards taxes paid by hotels to help sustain their operations.

He advised hotel managers to involve the security agencies in the training of their workers in intelligence gathering and vigilance to keep them in readiness to ward off any form of terrorist attack.

Mr Acquaye urged the security agencies especially the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and the Police administration not to relent in their inspection and policing duties and prepare adequately to deal with any kind of terrorist attack.

He hinted that the GHA will be training Managers, Directors, Supervisors and the general staff of the various hotels in service standards to render top quality services.
