Acute fuel shortage hits Ho

An acute fuel shortage has hit the Ho Municipality, slowing down social and economic activities in the area at the weekend. The situation got worse on Saturday, when tourists and other visitors poured into Ho to witness the grand durbar of this years Yam Festival of the chiefs and people of the Asogli Traditional Area. Taxis and other commercial transports using petrol were thrown out of business leaving those who use gas and diesel to cash in on the situation. In view of the few commercial cars doing business, people boycotted many social and economic activities or walk long distances to attend such functions. Drivers and motorcycle owners were seen moving from one filling station to another with gallons in search of fuel. An attendant at a Goil filling station, who wanted to remain anonymous, told the Ghana News Agency that the shortage was from the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and not from the filling stations in town. He said he did not know when the situation would be resolved and that until then, transport owners would only have to bear with the situation.
