VGMAs 2016 Live Transmission Limbo

With few days to the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), organisers are uncertain if the event will be live on television.

Industry players raised concerns about the possibility of the show not being telecasted after some people were disappointed as no television station showed the nominee jam held in Ho.

George Quaye, Public Relations Officer of Charterhouse, organisers of the event, could not give a definite answer when he was asked on Radio XYZ’s Arts In Review if the event will be live on TV.

“I cannot openly say that it will be live on TV not to even talk of which television station it is going to be on…,” he told Daavi Esi.

George questioned why many entertainment show panellists and industry players who mark the VGMA according to the performance of the Grammys, will not speak about media houses not bidding for the VGMA TV right as done at the Grammys.

“The funny thing is that, when it comes to this event, people are always quick to compare it to the Grammys that they start on time etc. The Grammys also has TV rights that has been paid for. Over here, the event has to pat TV stations to show it live. Why don’t you speak to this one too? When are we going to get to the stage where TV rights will be bargained for?” he queried.

He however stated that, “Organisers are trying hard to get the event telecasted.”

The seventeenth edition of the event is slated for May 7 at the Accra International Conference Centre.
