Management of Man Capital Ltd, has come to the aid of 16 year old Andy Dodoo, who was bathed in a substance suspected to be acid by a tenant following a misunderstanding with his (Dodoo’s) dad.

The micro-finance and investment company donated Ghc 10,000 to the Burns Department of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital on Tuesday towards Andy’s medical upkeep.

On February 15, this year, the victim, whiles attempting to calm tempers between his father and the tenant by name Suleyman Yuguda, found himself in harm’s way when the corrosive substance was splashed over his body, boiling his skin.

Four other family members also sustained severe acid burns in the process.

Although the three others have been treated and discharged, Andy and his father are still on admission at the hospital due to the severity of their injuries.

Doctors say Andy suffered third-degree burns with 65% damage over his arms, chest, stomach, and legs.

The teenager has been left bundled in bandages from his upper body, leaving enough room on his face to peer at the world.

Michael Allan Asare, CEO of Man Capital, who presented the cheque covering the amount together with management, said the donation which formed part of their corporate social responsibility to respond to the needs of affected people in the society, is to also compliment efforts by other well-meaning Ghanaians.

According to him, the company was deeply moved by the plight of the youngman following news of the incident.

Whiles praying for his speedy recovery, the company also pledged to lend a hand when called upon to offer support anytime.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the Burns Dept, Dr Kwame Darko, Snr Specialist and Plastic Surgoen thanked Man Capital for the kind gesture and appealed to other organizations to emulate their example.

He indicated that it will go a long way to cushion the cost of medical bills accrued at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for the victim’s treatment.

Since news of the teenager’s ordeal went viral, some corporate bodies and benevolent individuals including former President Rawlings, have visited the hospital and donated various sums of monies to cater for his hospital bills.

It is believed Andy’s family coughs up ₵1,800 each day to pay for expensive antibiotics, blood transfusions and a host of other medical requirements since the unfortunate incident.

While they spend nearly ₵2000 a week on dressing, the doctors say Andy also needs ₵800 every day for Albumin, a protein substance found in blood.

At least two more surgeries are on the horizon to restore the damaged skin areas. The cost of a surgery runs into ₵4,000, peacefmonline understands.

Andy has spent more than 40 days in the hospital and is not close to being discharged any time soon.

Background

Suleyman Yuguda is believed to have signed a two-year agreement with Andy's father, but allegedly forged the tenancy documents to extend his stay in the house, at Kwashieman, a suburb of Accra to four years.

But with the original documents, Andy said the family reported the incident officers at the Hong Kong Police post.

Meanwhile, the suspect, Suleyman Yuguda who had wanted to extend his stay at Andy’s father’s house, is currently on the run.
