Aboadze thermal plant undergoes rehabilitation

Mr Osafo Adjei, General Manager of Takoradi International Company (TICO) has said the outstanding major maintenance works by the company will complete by 23 October. World benchmarks expect major inspection works to be completed with 42 days, but we have chosen 27 days to ensure quality supply of reliable power to Ghanaians, he said. Mr. Adjei announced this at a press briefing on the Takoradi Thermal Plant Expansion Project (T2) at Aboadze in the Shama District of the Western Region over the weekend. He said the total cost of the planning and maintenance works which started about one and half years ago is $12 million. Mr Adjei said plans are underway to convert the plant into a more efficient combined power operation, with the addition of 110 megawatt steam turbine generators with associated heat recovery steam generators. When completed, the expansion programme will not only add significantly to our national generation capacity, but will also be increasing our efficiency from 33 to 55 per cent, he said. He explained that TICO is a joint venture between Taqa Energy Company of Abu Dhabi and Volta River Authority (VRA) and was incorporated into the Ghana Companies Code in January in 1999 to expand VRAs 330 mega watts thermal plant to 660 megawatts.
