Students of the Tamale School of Hygiene have embarked on a demonstration to protest against the failure of the relevant authorities to pay allowances of their teachers who are on a sit-down strike currently.
Teachers of the institution, DAILY GUIDE gathered, have not been paid their marking, invigilation, research and travelling allowances for about three years now.
Although final year students of the school will be completing their programmes in June this year, they are yet to be informed about when their mid-semester examinations will be written.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the Students Representative Council (SRC) President, Malemoa Jerome, bemoaned how the situation was affecting the smooth progress of academic works on campus.
He mentioned that several attempts to get the principal of the school, Alfred D. Asibi, to woo their striking teachers to return to the classroom had fallen on deaf ears.
Malemoa Jerome further narrated the deplorable conditions in their hostel, saying it has become a death trap for the students, especially during heavy rainstorm.
He appealed to the government to come to their aid to help bring their teachers back into the classroom.
