Ghanaians To Demonstrate Against Prez Mahama In UK

A group calling itself, Concerned Ghanaians Living in the UK is planning a demonstration today against President John Dramani Mahama.

The group argues that President Mahama’s poor handling of the economy and the increasing cases of corruption in his government makes him unfit to lead Ghana.

President Mahama is in the UK for an anti-corruption conference.

The Convener of the group, Nana Owusu Forjour speaking to Citi News said they will express their frustrations to the President at the conference.

“Anything that happens in Ghana we are aware. In this modern world, we know everything by logging on to citifmonline.com so everything that goes on in Ghana, we know and we hear. Can you imagine our oil money of about GHc3.6 million being used to brand a bus without going through a procurement process, how? Just recently, Dr. Bawumia just told the world that the Finance Minister has lodged a startling amount of $250 million and they are given us all kind of reason. You can take that to the marines,” he said.

President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday joined other world leaders at an Anti-Corruption Summit being organised by the UK Government.

The Summit, which is taking place at a time President Mahama has been traveling across the country in furtherance of his transparency agenda to account to the people of Ghana, is important in moving forward Ghana’s anti-corruption agenda as contained in the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (2015-2024) and other commitments under the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).

President Mahama said before leaving Accra that “the London Summit provides an opportunity to demonstrate once again the measures we have been adopting to strengthen our fight against corruption, combat money laundering and counter the financing of terrorism.”

President Mahama is expected to meet with his Co-Chair of the UN Eminent Persons Group on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and host an ‘Accounting to the People’ Forum for Ghanaians living in the UK on Friday.
