Pay Ex GPHA Workers Severance

The Northern Alliance For Better Ghana (NAFBEG) has asked government to pay severance awards to workers of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority(GPHA) laid off in 2002.

A statement signed and ssued to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday by Mr Sulleman Abubakar Bayeta, General Secretary, said if the group does not hear from government on the issue in a week, it would embark on demonstrations and other lawful actions to back their request.

According to the statement, majority of the over 3000 ex workers are members of the group who are all registered voters.

Mr Bayeta said,"Late President Atta Mills, ordered the Ministry of Transport and the Management of GPHA to pay the ex workers their due but sadly,he died just a week later.

Now it is the turn of President John Mahama to continue the good works of his mentor."

According to the Statement," President John Mahama should honour the Late President by ordering GPHA to pay off the ex workers who are living in misery."

The group caled on Mr Richard Anamoo, the Director General, GPHA, to lend his support to their cause as they supported him when he was wrongfully dismissed some years back.

"Workers fall victim to various administrative actions and inaction. When he was in our shoes, we sympathized and supported him but now we hardly see him let alone talk for him to listen."

The group called on President Mahama not to listen to people who are against the payment of the severance award because it is about votes, welfare of fellow human beings and his legacy.
