Need To Encourage Christian-Muslim Running Mates

The Islamic Centre for Virtue and Social Development (ICVISOD) has called on all political parties to follow the example of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in choosing a Muslim as a running mate.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, Executive Director of ICVISOD, said this action would ensure an enduring vision of peaceful inter-faith cohabitation.

He said some of our neighbouring countries have this deliberate system of Christian-Muslim leadership in their respective countries.

He said a recent statement by Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the NPP running mate, in that regard was not meant to raise tensions in the society.

Alhaji Frimpong said it is the position of ICVISOD that Dr Bawumia was innocuously stating his party’s position on the need for collaboration.

He said it is very easy to turn the NPP’s pronouncement on this laudable policy into a needless uproar.
